In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fitted with a black leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of brass topped glass inkwells and a pen tray next to a small stamp slope.
The box also comes with its original working key.
The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is in good order although it has worn along the crease. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box, a few small chips and some minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
