Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1890s.
A geometric “sayagata” border in black and gold encircles the lid. Interior details include purple floral sprigs painted inside the base and lid, a rare feature found on higher quality pieces. The underside bears a rectangular black cartouche with partially gilt characters, a mark consistent with Kinkozan studio. Kinkozan was the most important Kyoto studio for export luxury Satsuma, renowned for refined enamel and gilding. This tripod box demonstrates the high standards of Kyoto production at the end of the 19th century.

Condition: Excellent, minimal wear to gilding on the legs.
