Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-to-late nineteenth century, cigar smoking became a prominent social custom among gentlemen. Manufacturers designed compact pocket cases combining durable tanned leather with decorative sterling silver mounts, allowing individuals to carry cigars securely while displaying status through refined personal accessories.

Victorian cigar cases were commonly constructed from thick, moulded cowhide or pigskin leather to maintain structural rigidity. The openings were frequently reinforced with sterling silver mounts, frames, or shields, stamped with official assay office hallmarks to certify metal purity.

Authentic British examples feature clear hallmarking stamped directly onto the silver rim or mount, including the lion passant mark for sterling quality, a town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. The leather should display natural age-related patina, tight stitching, and precise hand-fitted moulding.

These small tactile objects work best when displayed flat or propped on small stands within a gentlemans library, office desk, or bookshelf vignette. Pairing leather and silver accessories alongside framed prints, brass instruments, and hardback books adds historical depth to contemporary study spaces.

Keep the leather supple by applying a neutral leather balm occasionally using a soft cloth, avoiding contact with liquid cleansers. Polish the silver elements carefully with a specialized silver polishing cloth, ensuring chemical pastes do not touch or dry on the adjacent leather surfaces.
