A reverse glass print portrait of William Pitt the Elder.

Circa: 1754

Richard Houston (1721-1775) after William Hoare (1707-1792)

Presented in a period Georgian frame.

William Pitt the Elder, 1st Earl of Chatham (1708-17780) served as Prime Minister of Great Britian from 1766-68. Pitt was a brilliant orator in parliament and is best known as a wartime political leader during the Seven Years War ensuring Britain defeated its long term enemy France. He was highly popular with the electorate, attacking corruption and supporting the American colonies view in the run up to the American Revolution.
