Regency Reverse Glass Print of Queen Caroline

19th century
Description

Britons Behold Your Queen: Her Majesty Queen Caroline.

Crowned with Victory by Britannia on the Defeat of the Bill of Pains and Penalties.

Published by W. B. Walker, 4 Fox and Knot Court, Cow Lane, London.

A Regency reverse glass print of Royal interest with wonderfully bold original colour.

Circa: 1820

The Bill of Pains and Penalties was a great cause celebre of the Regency period. George IV sought to end his disastrous marriage to Queen Caroline via an Act of Parliament claiming adultery by Caroline and seeking to remove her title as Queen. This went in the face of public opinion who adored Caroline and eventually the bill was defeated to the delight of the populace. The press covered the trial in salacious detail and this reverse glass print celebrates Queen Caroline's victory.
