Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Patented in the early nineteenth century by Charles James Mason, Ironstone china is a durable vitreous earthenware designed as a robust alternative to imported porcelain. Hydra jugs feature distinctive octagonal bodies and handles modelled after the mythical multi-headed serpent.

Ironstone was produced using slag, clay, flint, and ironstone gravel, fired at high temperatures to create heavy ceramic bodies. Pieces were finished with transfer printing and hand-painted enamel glazes, often incorporating gilt or lustre detailing.

Authentic pieces typically feature impressed or printed maker marks on the base, such as Masons Patent Ironstone China alongside crown emblems. Characteristics include substantial weight, a cold-to-the-touch dense body, crisp octagonal moulding, and detailed serpent handle shapes.

Displaying a graduated set together on a sideboard, dresser, or open shelf creates a visual focal point using scaled proportions. They can also function as vase vessels for fresh floral displays on a dining table or console.

Hand wash gently using warm water and mild dish detergent, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleaners. Do not submerge pieces with existing cracks, and avoid dishwashers to prevent glaze crazing or damage to painted enamels.
