Antique Country Furniture 19thc Yew & Elm Windsor Low-back Chair With Crinoline Stretcher. Yorkshire C1840-60.

I was very pleased to have bought this beautiful early 19thc yew and elm Windsor low-back...it is of the type which is quite uncommon....it has a pleasing conformation and classic early look with the way the yew wood arm bow is bent around the top of the chair, supported by twelve tapered yew wood spindles divided by a classic ''fir tree'' centre splat typical of the Yorkshire area of England.... the seat is the only part made from elm and it is supported by four yew turned triple ring concave legs which terminate on shapely turned feet....and as if that is not enough, it has a ''crinoline'' stretcher true testament to the skill of the chair maker or ''bodger'' as they were called, who made this handsome chair with very simple tools....the colour as you would expect from yew and elm is very good and the chair is in original condition with no repairs....

English -Yorkshire. C1840-60.
