Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Spanish domed coffer is a traditional storage chest featuring an arched lid, historically covered in leather hide and decorated with brass or iron studs. Originating in Spain and its colonies, these trunks were designed to shed rainwater during travel while protecting stored textiles and valuables.

These trunks typically consist of a solid timber carcass, such as pine or oak, upholstered with thick hide leather. Decorative and structural elements include iron corner brackets, hand-forged latches, and brass studs arranged in geometric or floral motifs.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-forged iron hardware, irregular hand-cut brass studs, and hand-stitched leather joins. Signs of natural age include surface craquelure on the hide, uneven patination on the metalwork, and traditional joinery within the wooden interior structure.

A domed coffer serves as a tactile focal point when placed in an entryway, on a wide hallway landing, or at the foot of a bed. Its rich texture balances minimalist contemporary decor, though items should not be placed on the curved lid.

Keep the chest away from direct heat and sunlight to avoid desiccating the hide. Apply a neutral, conservation-grade leather wax sparingly to maintain moisture, and gently clean the metal studs with a dry microfibre cloth to prevent surface corrosion.
