Herbert Royle. (1870-1958).
He was a British landscape painter, born in Patricroft, Lancashire.
He was a member of the Manchester Academy of fine arts, Liverpool Academy and Sandon studios society.

Royle’s style is very recognisable by his strong brush strokes, heavy impasto and bold vibrant colours. Royle enjoyed a successful career and his love of the countryside conveyed in his work, English summer harvesting, Wharfe river scenes and snow covered fields made his work highly sought after. His paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and Royal Scottish Society. He exhibited extensively at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool and Manchester City art gallery which houses his work today. Royle finally settled and lived his remaining years in Ilkley, Yorkshire.
