Early 19th century mahogany two door cabinet possibly made by Gillows of Lancaster and London.
The inverted breakfront stepped cornice sits over a frieze with a moulded base. The pair of doors retain the original gilt brass interlaced grills with silk pleated curtains fitted behind and being held by brass rails. The base and top right hand doors are fitted with an elegant brass reeded strip and retain the original gilt brass locks and escutcheons.
The flanking reed columns are attached to the gilt brass doors that open to reveal five adjustable shelves which are original to the bookcase and have reeded fronts and mitred ends. This top section sits on a base with half round moulded edges over a frieze and a moulding that runs below the pair of panelled doors.
The bottom section is made with two well-figured mahogany doors that naturally match the top section with identical reeded pillars and open to reveal two interior adjustable shelves.
The mahogany cabinet is raised on a... moulded base that terminates on the original solid mahogany bun feet.
