Striking French D’Argental (ca. 1920-1925) multi-layer, acid-etched glass cameo vase by Paul Nicolas (1875-1952) decorated with fuschia in shades of brown and red on a satin ochre background. Signed d''Argental with the cross of Lorraine in the decoration. Ca. 18.5cm tall x 6.5cm dia (base), Weight 291g. Fitted box.
Superb original condition.
D''Argental vase were made by Paul Nicolas, who was Chief Designer at Gallé and later went on to make glass under his own name and for St Louis under the name D''Argental. D''Argental workmanship is consistently good and this vase is no exception, but D''Argental is not as well known as Gallé or Daum, so the prices are still quite reasonable in comparison.
