Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this Dutch Golden Age Portrait to the 1750s.
The original portrait of Aechje Claesdr who was 84 years of age at the time she was painted, is on display in the National Gallery under [ Ref NG775 ] and is painted on an oak panel being of the Baroque Period.
The oval format of all these portraits was very fashionable in Amsterdam at the time.
The masterfully executed black dress and white ruff complement the expressive countenance of the old woman. The pigment analysis revealed a limited palette consisting of red and yellow ochres, bone black, lead white, and vermilion.
ABOUT THE SITTER [ Aechje Claesdr ]
This sitter has recently been identified as Aechje Claesdr., widow of the Rotterdam brewer, Jan Dammaszn. Pesser. She had a son, Dirck Jansz Pesser who along with his wife sat for Rembrandt to paint their Lorain’s, both undertaken in the same year. -

Rembrandt’s ability to capture a likeness and a sense of the sitter'scharacter sets him apart from many of his contemporaries. In particular his portrayal of old people, including himself as he aged, was always disarmingly honest. CONDITION
Wear and minor distress to frame consistent with age, no losses and with past regilding. Painted surface of the portrait has very faint craquelure as is normal for thé age. Evidence of an historic wax reline last century,all secure with canvas still taut in good order and requiring no attention. Supplied wired and ready to hang.
