Early 20th Century German Porcelain Pair by Oldest Volkstedt Factory

1900 - 1920
Description

A pair of German porcelain figures produced by the Oldest Volkstedt Porcelain Factory, Thuringia, circa 1915. Both figures are modelled in the Dresden style, each on a circular base with a relief gilt border and painted in rich polychrome enamels. The group depicts a rural scene: the boy holding a birdcage and feeding a bird with a worm, and the girl carrying a large flower basket. The female figure is marked with the well-known Volkstedt crown and 1762 underglaze blue mark introduced as the factory’s 150th anniversary emblem in 1915. The male figure bears an export mark applied by a partner company for the British market, reflecting the period practice of supplying undecorated blanks for finishing by associated studios. An attractive example of Thuringian porcelain for collectors or interior display.

Dimensions: Heights: boy 19.4 cm (406 g), girl 21 cm (410 g).

Condition: The boy is in excellent condition. The girl has a loss to the fingers of her right hand; otherwise very good. Decoration and gilding are well preserved.

Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that shipping costs include labour, packaging and postage.
