________________________________________

Description

This outstanding Regency period sofa table showcases the refined artistry and sophistication characteristic of early 19th-century English furniture. Crafted in richly figured rosewood, the table is beautifully inlaid with fine cut brass detailing that accentuates its clean lines and classical proportions.

The rectangular top features two drop leaves, allowing you to extend the surface as needed. A delicate brass inlay borders the perimeter, enhancing the warm glow of the rosewood veneers.

The front of the table is fitted with two working drawers, offering practical storage with elegant brass knobs and period locks. To maintain symmetry, the rear is designed with two corresponding false drawers, achieving a balanced and harmonious appearance from all sides.

The piece stands on elegant lyre-shaped supports united by a turned stretcher for added stability. The sabre legs are carved and terminate in brass-capped castors, ensuring easy movement while preserving a stately presence.

“There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man’s lawful prey.”

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency sofa table is a narrow table featuring drop flaps at either end and shallow drawers along the frieze, designed during the early 19th century to sit directly behind a sofa or within the centre of a drawing room.

Craftsmen during the Regency era frequently utilised rich timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, often accented with cut brass inlay, stringing, turned supports, and brass paw castors.

Authentic Regency sofa tables generally exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, period brass handles, cut brass or ebony inlaid pattern work, and end-standard supports connected by a stretcher.

A Regency sofa table can be positioned behind a floating sofa, utilised as a hall console table, or placed beneath a window to support table lamps, books, and decorative objects.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly, ensuring metal elements remain dry and avoiding excess moisture near inlaid brass borders.
