Condition: Spot of cobalt blue paint to one cheek, Manufacturing blemish to the other cheek. Tiny losses to the tip of the nose, eyelid and top knot. Marine residue and staining to the reverse and underside.
Provenance: This piece bears its original Sotheby’s auction reference number to the base allowing it to be cross checked with the original Sotheby’s Amsterdam auction catalogue, sale date 29/30/3st January 2007.
As these pieces have spent hundreds of years submerged beneath the sea, an overall dulling of the glaze is quite common and more prominent in some examples.
