Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fob seals were widely used from the 18th through the 19th century as personal signatures pressed into hot sealing wax to secure letters and legal documents. Attached to pocket watch chains via fobs, these items displayed family crests, initials, or symbolic motifs, serving as both practical administrative tools and status-defining accessories.

19th-century fob seals were frequently manufactured using cast gilt metal, pinchbeck, silver, or solid gold mounts. The base matrices were carved from hardstones such as cornelian, chalcedony, bloodstone, onyx, or moulded glass, selected for their durability and contrast when impressed into wax.

Authentic period seals exhibit hand-carved details within the gemstone matrix, showing minor microscopic tool marks or wear consistent with age. Mounts often feature hand-chased ornamentation, characteristic casting seams of the era, and age-related tarnish or wear to electroplated and gilt finishes.

Antique fob seals are frequently repurposed as decorative charms suspended from modern gold or silver chains. They can be worn layered with other historic pendants or displayed in glass vitrines alongside antique desk accessories.

Clean cornelian fob seals gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth to remove surface dust. Avoid submerging gilt metal in liquid cleaners or chemical solutions, as moisture can compromise gilded layers and deteriorate settings behind the gemstone matrix.
