Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The main border has a powerful rendition of tribal motifs and the rug is complete with chevron skirts in knotted-pile as opposed to flat-weave technique. Particularly attractive, are the highlights of a natural, light-blue throughout.
The rug is in very good overall condition, albeit with some areas of corroded brown dye, due to the iron mordant effect.
