An good quality antique Welsh oak coffor bach, or miniature coffer most likely from Carmarthenshire, west Wales. The hinged lid above two raised fielded panels embellished with fluting. The back panels are indicative of age with handmade nails and hand saw marks. The drawer has later replacemt period handles and is surprisingly heavy. Traditionally associated with marriage, these miniature versions of larger coffers would have been used to store and secure a woman`s most valuable, small possessions and were often passed down through the female line in Welsh families.
