Rare Japanese Bronze Archaic Bowl, Edo Period, C. 1700–1750.

Description

A highly unusual and early Japanese bronze ritual or offering bowl with separate applied cartouches, each secured by original hand-forged rivets. The bowl features alternating mask-like faces of samurai warriors in horned helmets and stylized sacred trees, all with fine hand-engraved detailing. The upper rim is a separately applied band with a classic key-fret pattern. Construction is distinctly archaic; this is not Meiji revival but a genuine Edo-period piece, likely temple or ceremonial ware.

Dimensions: Height 7 cm, diameter 16.2 cm, weight 324 g.

Original patina, untouched rivets, significant age wear, minor cracks and dents. No restorations, no modern alterations.
