Description

This is one of the finest and most incredible Qashqa'i rugs I've come across in my over 40 years of handling many of the very best. This beautiful rug was probably made for a Khan or tribal chief, having complete silk-wefts throughout and in amazing condition for its age. It was made by an exemplary weaver of the Kashkuli 'tayefeh' or sub-tribe of the Qashqa'i Confederacy circa 1880. It comprises an ivory-ground with an overall design of the 'herati' pattern - two stylised fish opposing each other on either side of a water-lily - a symbol of happiness.

A magnificent and highly collectible rug.
