Royal Vienna Chocolate Cup with Allegorical Woodland Scenes, C.1880

Description

An exceptional Royal Vienna porcelain chocolate cup, c.1880, decorated on a deep cobalt blue ground with raised gilding and moriage beading in gold and white enamel. The quality of execution reflects the highest level of late 19th-century Viennese craftsmanship. The panoramic frieze presents three allegorical scenes: a rustic mother soothing her child (Nature), village women gathering flowers and weaving a garland (Art), and Cupid riding in a chariot drawn by two maidens (Love). Together, they represent the classical triad “Art- Nature - Love,” a symbolic theme closely associated with Royal Vienna’s neoclassical aesthetics. Marked underneath with the blue beehive mark. A particularly rare and refined example of Royal Vienna porcelain, highly desirable for serious collectors.

Condition: One small gilded moriage dot missing; otherwise excellent, with pristine gilding and enamels.

Dimensions: Weight 241 g, height 12 cm, width 11 cm, diameter 7.5 cm.
