An albarello is a specific form of tin-glazed earthenware ceramic jar designed traditionally to store apothecary preparations, ointments, and dried herbs. Originating in the Islamic world and brought to Europe during the Middle Ages, the style flourished in Italian ceramic centres throughout the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
