Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian tabletop book press is a wooden mechanical device from the 18th or early 19th century used primarily to flatten newly bound books, paper stock, or household linens. Operated by a central hand-turned wooden screw, it applied even vertical pressure to items placed upon its flat base.

Traditional Georgian presses were primarily constructed from dense native hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or fruitwood to withstand heavy mechanical pressure. Iron fittings were occasionally used to reinforce joints, while base drawers often featured cast brass ring pulls or turned wood handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut threads on the central wooden spindle, hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joints, and uneven wear along the frame. Look for hand-planed surfaces, historical wood shrinkages around joints, and original brass hardware showing natural oxidisation.

An antique tabletop press functions as a architectural focal point when displayed on an executive desk, sideboard, or sturdy bookcase. It pairs well alongside leather-bound volumes, brass instruments, and natural timber elements to add structural interest to a study or living space.

Keep the timber clean using a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust from tight grooves. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the oak grain and prevent timber drying, ensuring the central wooden thread remains free from heavy build-up or forced movement.
