Victorian Gold Sovereign – Queen Victoria, 1886
An original 19th-century British gold sovereign, struck in 1886 during the reign of Queen Victoria.
The obverse shows the ‘Young Head’ portrait by William Wyon with the Latin legend VICTORIA D.G. BRITANNIAR. REG. F.D. The reverse bears the iconic image of St. George slaying the dragon, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, with the date below. Struck at the London Mint (no mintmark), this sovereign is composed of 22-carat gold (91.67%).
