Staffordshire temperance figures are earthenware ceramic ornaments produced in nineteenth-century England to support the Temperance Movement, often featuring allegorical imagery or inscriptions promoting abstinence from alcohol.

These figures were typically made from lead-glazed earthenware or pearlware, press-moulded in sections, and decorated using overglaze enamel pigments painted by hand.

Authentic pieces generally display small air release holes from the moulding process, press-moulded hollow interiors, light visual weight relative to modern reproductions, and natural age-related glaze crazing.

These historical figures are traditionally displayed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or sideboards, where their colourful glazes add texture alongside books and traditional furnishings.

Dust the figure gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or brush. Avoid immersing the ceramic in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as this can damage delicate overglaze enamels.
