Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, the rise of steamship and railway travel necessitated durable, portable luggage. Trunks were engineered to withstand rough handling during long journeys, serving as mobile wardrobes for travellers transporting clothing and personal effects.

These trunks typically featured a lightweight wooden inner frame wrapped in heavy canvas or leather. Edges and corners were reinforced with thick leather bindings, hand-stitched details, and metal buckles or brass locks for security and structural rigidity.

Authentic period trunks exhibit natural patination on the leather, historical brass or iron hardware with age-appropriate oxidisation, original hand-stitching along the bindings, and evidence of wear on the protective canvas exterior.

A flat-topped travel trunk functions effectively as a distinctive coffee table, a foot-of-bed storage chest, or a side table in a reading nook. Its aged texture adds visual depth and historical character to modern, industrial, or eclectic rooms.

Keep the trunk in a climate-controlled room away from direct heat sources to prevent the wood frame from warping. Clean the canvas using a soft dry brush, and apply a dedicated leather conditioner periodically to keep the leather trims supple.
