Rare Antique English Mahogany & Brass Rings Box for 120 Rings! - Victorian C.1880

Description

I have never come across a box quite like this before, certainly a most unusual find. Made from Mahogany, the box is fitted with top quality brass fittings with two catches at the front which slide to the sides to open and then snap shut.

Once opened the box again is finished with all corners inlaid with brass, a true sign of quality. I am uncertain what the box would originally have been used for, a Salesman, a Jewellers or purely commissioned for a serious collector of rings.

The interior is fully fitted with the original blue velvet, to accommodate 120 rings and the lid having been recently re-lined with a hand-marbled paper in complete keeping.

A wonderful piece in excellent condition with a good polished patina. 12 1/4" x 8" x 1 5/8" tall while closed.
