Fine quality smaller scale late C19th Italian ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir bronze study, after the antique, of “The Farnese Hercules “.
 
Mounted upon a cylindrical block of Rosso Levanto marble onto a square Nero black marble base . The well-cast bronze figure of Hercules depicted in a contrapposto stance after completing one of his Twelve Labours , resting on his club and leaning against a tree stump , the pelt of The Nemean Lion over his shoulder, holding the golden apples of The Hesperides in his hand behind his back.
 
In excellent original condition with a rich consistent colour and patina to the bronze, the figured Rosso and Nero marble base with no damage or repairs.
 
The quality of the bronze casting and the use of the Rosso Levanto and Nero marbles in the construction of the base, alluding to the workshop of Benedetto Boschetti of Rome ( fl.1829-1879) , whose works often feature the use of a similar combination of materials.
