Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, specimen wood tables were crafted to display rare, exotic, and contrasting timbers in decorative geometric patterns such as starbursts or compass points. French cabinetmakers used these tables as showpieces to demonstrate high-level marquetry and parquetry skills.

These tables typically utilise a primary timber framework, such as walnut or mahogany, overlaid with thin veneers of contrasting specimen woods including satinwood, rosewood, kingwood, and fruitwoods. Brass rims, mounts, and castors were frequently added for protection and structural accentuation.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry veneers with subtle natural variations in timber grain and colour patination. Examination of the underside often reveals solid secondary timber construction, historical drawer dovetailing, and original brass fixings.

A round specimen wood table is typically placed in the centre of an entry hall, foyer, or grand living area to create a central focal point. Designers often pair the table with a minimalist floral vessel or sculptural display to contrast the detailed geometric woodwork.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer shrinkage, lifting, or fading. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber and retain the original patina.
