This gorgeous king size bed with original paint finish and gilded transfers is truly stunning. Incredibly attractive shaping in the panel detail, with a central brass decoration depicting flowers and leaves. Lovely decorative clamps and castings.

Professionally restored with all joints checked for a solid and secure fit. The siderails have been adapted to be able to take slats or a bed base. A lovely bed, perfect for any room.

Whole frame shot blasted and primed prior to hand pant finish in Jet Black colour waxed over to protect and give a gentle shine. The side rails have been adapted to support slats or a bed base.

Japanned iron bedsteads are Victorian and Edwardian metal bed frames coated with a dark enamel lacquering technique known as japanning, designed to imitate East Asian lacquerware. Popularised in the 19th century, these frames combined fireproof cast iron durability with decorative brass flourishes.

Victorian bedsteads were typically constructed using cast iron for the decorative joinery and wrought iron for the horizontal rails. Heavy brass tubing was added to top rails, accompanied by solid brass finials, collars, and decorative mounts fixed onto iron rods.

Authentic 19th-century metal beds feature cast iron corner joints, often referred to as dovetail drop-in joints or cleats, where side rails slot directly into the posts without modern bolts. They also exhibit hand-cast decorative motifs, solid brass finials, and genuine age-related oxidisation.
