Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating from eighteenth-century French bouillotte lamps used for card games, adjustable candle holders were designed to shield players eyes from direct light. By the late Victorian period, these brass lighting fixtures were produced across Britain and Europe for domestic desk and reading use.

These items were predominantly constructed from cast and stamped brass components. Typical construction includes a tray base, a vertical brass stem, a central candle socket, and a fitted shade with a screw clamp mechanism.

Authentic late Victorian examples feature hand-assembled brass components, threaded adjusting mechanisms, and natural surface oxidisation in unpolished areas. Maker initials or foundry stamps are frequently present on the underside of the base.

Position the item on a timber office desk, a sideboard top, or a bookshelf alongside books and framed art. The warm metallic finish provides contrast when placed against contemporary matte surfaces.

Remove surface dust using a soft, dry cloth and clean crevices with a soft-bristled brush. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners that can strip the natural patina or damage fine stamped detailing on the brass.
