An attractive early 18th-century crossbanded oak bureau, in country house condition, dating to circa 1720. The fall-front opens to reveal a beautifully stepped interior fitted with small drawers, pigeonholes, and secret compartments – a fine example of period craftsmanship. Below are two short drawers over two long drawers, providing excellent storage. The bureau stands on shaped bracket feet and retains correct later brass handles in keeping with the period style.
The oak has developed a warm, rich patina, highlighting the quality of the crossbanding and dovetail joinery. Perfect for collectors of early Georgian furniture, this antique bureau combines functionality with charm and would make an elegant addition to a study, library, or traditional interior.
