Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
The body is extensively engraved with stylised acanthus leaves and Celtic knot border to both sides. To the front is a vacant shield shape cartouche and the interior is fully gilded. Due to the larger proportions of the piece, this example of card case will easily accommodate a modern day credit or debit card along with business cards. A charming and collectable example.
