Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Globe Wernicke stacking bookcase, also known as a barrister bookcase, is a modular storage system composed of separate interlocking glazed units. Designed in the late 19th century, these units feature doors that lift and slide back into the top of each section to protect books from dust.

These bookcases were primarily constructed from hard woods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with glass front panels. They feature specialized brass scissor mechanisms or side metal runners to allow the door to retract horizontally above the shelf.

Authentic pieces usually feature printed paper labels, metallic badges, or stamped marks bearing the Globe Wernicke name inside the back panels or along the side shelf bands. Additionally, check for original brass shelf mechanisms, copper bandings, and interlocking side slots.

A glazed stacking bookcase works effectively in a contemporary home office, hallway, or living room as both storage and a display case. Its warm wood tones complement dark academia aesthetics, modern rustic spaces, or traditional reading corners.

Clean the timber surfaces using a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain to maintain moisture. Ensure the internal door mechanisms remain clean and free from debris to allow smooth sliding action without forcing the glass.
