Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, patch boxes were designed to hold small beauty patches made of black silk, velvet, or taffeta. These patches were applied to the face to mask skin blemishes or accentuate features, making small silver patch boxes a standard vanity accessory of the period.

Georgian patch boxes were typically hand-hammered from sterling silver and finished with engine-turned decoration, wrigglework, or bright-cut engraving. They feature fitted unhinged push-on lids or simple hand-cut pin hinges, and occasionally contained polished steel or glass mirrors set inside the lid.

Authentic Georgian examples usually display English hallmarks or makers marks, often found stamped on the base or inside the lid rim. Due to their small surface area, some smaller patch boxes were only stamped with a makers mark or duty mark, alongside characteristic hand-engraved techniques like bright-cutting.

An antique silver patch box works well as a decorative accent on a bedside table, desk, or display tray alongside other silver collectables. Its compact size makes it ideal for display inside glass-fronted cabinets or as a functional vessel for small modern keepsakes.

Clean silver patch boxes using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated for antiques. Avoid submerging the piece in chemical liquid dips, which can strip away original patination in recessed engraved areas, and store in a low-humidity environment.
