Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, lorgnette opera glasses feature a folding or telescoping handle allowing the user to view theatrical performances without attaching a strap or holding binoculars directly to the face. They served as both functional magnification tools and high-status fashion accessories among European theatre attendees.

Historical opera glasses typically feature brass or bronze mechanical frames, glass convex optical lenses, and decorative exterior cladding made from natural mother-of-pearl, abalone shell, enamel, or polished leather.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural variations in mother-of-pearl iridescence, smooth mechanical movement on focus wheels, threaded brass assemblies, and appropriate age-related patina or minor surface oxidisation on exposed metal parts.

Antique optical items are commonly displayed on top of stacked vintage books, arranged inside glass cloches, placed on decorative brass trays, or incorporated into shelf displays within a home office or library setting.

Clean optical glass gently with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical polishes or water on mother-of-pearl, as liquid can damage organic shell layers and adhesives; wipe shell surfaces using a dry, soft cotton cloth.
