Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sword stick, or sword cane, is a popular eighteenth and nineteenth-century accessory featuring a concealed steel blade housed within a hollowed wooden or bamboo walking shaft. Originally developed as personal defence weapons when open carry of swords became less socially acceptable, these items became fashionable accessories for gentlemen during the Victorian era.

Traditional sword sticks typically featured exterior shafts crafted from dense woods such as ebony, malacca, or oak, often finished with brass, silver, or nickel collars. The concealed blades were forged from tempered steel, while the handles ranged from bent wood and horn to carved bone.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit natural patination on the metal collar and wooden shaft, alongside hand-forged steel blades displaying faint forging marks or age-related pitting. Period-correct silver hallmarks or maker marks near the collar band, combined with a precise friction-fit or push-button mechanism, further confirm authenticity.

An antique sword stick can be presented horizontally on a bookshelf or inside a glass display cabinet in a study or library. Alternatively, it can be styled upright alongside other period walking canes inside a cast-iron or brass stick stand near an entryway.

Maintain the wooden shaft by applying a small amount of natural beeswax polish and buffing gently with a soft cloth. To preserve the steel blade and prevent oxidisation, periodically apply a thin coat of mineral oil or microcrystalline wax before re-sheathing.
