Pair Of 19th Century Lyre Back Open Armchairs

£395    $533    €465
DESCRIPTION

A refined pair of 19th century back open armchairs. Featuring beautifully carved lyre-shaped splats and crisply detailed reeded edges throughout. The curved arms are gently swept and finely moulded, leading to a generous cane seat framed by a well-proportioned seat rail. The chairs rest on slender, tapering legs with fluted decoration. There are traces of parcel gilt throughout.

DIMENSIONS

90cm high x 56cm wide x 47cm deep

CONDITION

There are minor marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use. The gilt paint is worn and there is a little historic woodworm to both. One of the chairs has had some modern structural repairs underneath, and although the joints are sound and the canework is predominantly intact they are delicate, recommended as decorative accents rather than for use. Think a teasel wrapped in a ribbon on the seat, ą la National Trust! They have good colour and are very well-carved.
