Queen Anne Burr Walnut Hanging Corner Cupboard

18th century
Description

A Stunning And Extremely Rare Early 18th Century Queen Anne Period Burr Walnut Hanging Corner Cupboard, Having Elegant Broken Swan Neck Pediment To Top, Over Attractive Central Set Inlaid Star And Fielded Panel Door, With Featherbanded Decoration, Enclosing Two Fixed Shelves To Interior, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Surface Throughout.

This is one of the best early hanging corner cupboards which we have come across and considering that it is over 300 years old then it has certainly survived in great condition. Clearly well cherished throughout its life, the many years of day to day use and dusting has created a wonderfully untouched surface which really is a standout feature of the piece and something which would be impossible to reproduce.

Corner cupboards, particularly hanging ones, are of course a great solution to a room which is lacking storage and already has full walls. This is of course due to the fact they can be mounted in the corner and add a decent amount more of functional storage to a space which wouldn’t be in use otherwise. They also of course add real elegance and a slightly different dimension.

Overall the condition is extremely good, just a few old marks, scuffs, scatches and dents which are to be expected on a piece of furniture which has been well used and is over 300 years old. It also comes supplied with working lock and key.

As with all items which we list for sale this queen anne corner cupboard has received a natural wax polish by our traditional antique furniture restorers before being advertised for sale.

Circa 1710.

Height 38.5in.

Width 28in. (This measurement is across the front of the cupboard)

Depth 19.5in. (This measurement is how far along a wall from the corner the cupboard would protrude)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early 18th-century England, Queen Anne furniture is characterised by lighter proportions, refined curves, and prominent use of walnut veneers rather than heavy carved oak.

These cabinets were typically built with solid oak or pine carcases overlaid with decorative timber veneers such as burr walnut, featuring brass hardware and marquetry or parquetry inlays.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass drop handles or escutcheons, natural timber shrinkage along panel edges, and genuine aged patina on the underside and interior surfaces.

Mounting a period wall cupboard in an unused corner provides functional storage while adding warm timber tones to neutral modern rooms, creating an eclectic mix of eras.

Preserve the finish by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight and maintaining stable humidity levels to prevent veneer lifting.
