Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Open salt cellars have been used since classical antiquity to hold loose salt at the dining table, evolving into prominent status symbols during the Georgian and Victorian eras. By the early 20th century, cased sets containing multiple small salts and matching spoons became popular gifts for dining service.

Edwardian silver salt cellars were typically crafted from hallmarked sterling silver, using techniques such as spinning, casting, and hand-raising. Sets were frequently fitted into bespoke presentation boxes crafted from wood, lined with silk and velvet, and covered in leather or faux leather.

Authentic British sterling silver items feature a complete set of hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for silver purity, an assay office symbol (such as the leopards head for London), a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to 1909.

Cased silver salt sets can be displayed open on a dining room sideboard or inside a glass cabinet to highlight the original presentation box and polished silverwork. Alternatively, individual salts and spoons can be integrated into contemporary table settings during formal dinner service.

Silver salts should be washed promptly after use to prevent salt corrosion, thoroughly dried, and polished with a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver foam. Store items inside their original felt or velvet-lined case in a dry environment away from high humidity to minimize oxidisation.
