The male figure depicts a drummer; one of the drumsticks is missing and the other broken. The female figure holds a harp with replaced strings. Both figures display finely painted faces and remain visually impressive. These works are representative of the Rococo revival style popular in late 19th-century France. The male figure bears the underglaze blue crossed-line mark on the reverse, while the female figure is marked underneath the base - the registered factory mark of Bloch & Sie, Paris. Bloch & Sie were among the leading Parisian porcelain manufacturers of their time, known for their elegant interpretations of 18th-century forms and their high standard of decoration. Their pieces are now highly regarded by collectors of Belle Époque decorative arts. From a gentleman’s collection. A rare and desirable pair for collectors of 19th-century French porcelain.
