Victorian 9ct Gold Propelling Pencil & Hardstone Fob Seal – Dated 1878

A well-crafted Victorian 9ct gold combination propelling pencil and fob seal, dated 22nd June 1878 and engraved “John Powney”. The hexagonal barrel is engraved with foliate scrollwork typical of the period, with a date panel and a personalised inscription. The terminal is set with a carved hardstone matrix, possibly carnelian.
A functional and decorative item from the late 19th century, combining writing utility with a traditional gentleman’s fob seal.
Condition:
Minor surface wear consistent with age. Pencil mechanism present. Hardstone seal intact.
