Late 19th Century Russian Siena Marble and Ormolu Inkwell
A good quality late 19th century Russian inkwell, set in warm Siena marble with gilt bronze mounts in the neoclassical style. The domed lid is finely cast with foliate detail and lifts to reveal a white ceramic liner. Raised on four small turned feet.
Likely dating to around 1880–1900, the inkwell was removed from a London townhouse and remains a decorative and functional desk piece of its period.
Condition:
In good condition overall. Minor edge nibbles to the marble. Light oxidation to the lid interior. The hinge is slightly loose and the lid does not close tightly. The ceramic liner is intact.
Dimensions:
Height: 7 cm
Width: 11.5 cm
Depth: 8.5 cm
