Philip Christian Liverpool Soft-paste Teapot With Chinoiserie Panels, Ca. 1775.
£1,000 $1,373 €1,149
A molded and enamelled teapot in soft-paste porcelain, produced in Liverpool circa 1775 and attributed to the Philip Christian factory. The body is formed with relief panels, alternating chinoiserie figures and floral motifs, enriched with hand-painted enamels and gilt accents. The domed cover features molded ribs and a pierced vent. Christian operated the Liverpool works from 1765 to 1778, having taken over William Reid’s factory. His wares, often influenced by Worcester, display a distinctive glaze and modeling style associated with regional production. Examples are held in museum collections, notably the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (C.52\&A-1932). ... Highly sought after by collectors of early English porcelain. The authenticity of the piece, its craftsmanship, and the excellent preservation of decorative elements are clearly evident.
Dimensions: height 18.5 cm, width 20.5 cm, depth 12.5 cm, weight 733 grams.
Condition: lid restored and retouched; circular crack along base (barely visible); small chip inside spout. Light glaze pitting typical of Liverpool porcelain.
