Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sword stick, also known as a sword cane, is a concealed weapon popularised in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were carried as fashionable walking accessories that doubled as a discreet method of self-defence.

Traditional sword sticks were constructed using hardwoods such as malacca, bamboo, or ebony for the shaft, paired with a forged steel blade. Handles were frequently rendered in silver, brass, horn, or carved bone with detailed pommels.

Authentic pieces often feature hallmarks on silver mounts, friction-fit or button-release mechanisms, and hand-forged steel blades with patina or fuller grooves. Modern reproductions frequently lack precise fitting where the shaft meets the collar.

A vintage cane can be displayed mounted horizontally inside a glass wall case or standing upright in a heavy cast-iron or ceramic umbrella stand. Placing it in an entryway or library adds an element of historic interest and character to the space.

Keep the wood shaft in a humidity-controlled environment to prevent splitting, and apply microcrystalline wax to protect the finish. The steel blade should be occasionally oiled to prevent oxidisation, while silver handles require light buffing with a dry polishing cloth.
