Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napoleon III seating emerged in France during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, characterised by plush upholstery, deep button tufting, and low, comfortable frames. The design often conceals much of the wooden structure, featuring dark ebonised or turned legs set on castors.

Frames were typically constructed from hardwoods such as beech, fitted with steel coil springs and webbing. Traditional filling consisted of horsehair, coir, and cotton felt, upholstered in rich silk damasks, brocades, or velvets.

Authentic pieces feature dense, heavy frame construction, traditional hand-tied coil springs, horsehair padding, and hand-stitched buttoning. The legs are typically short, turned or tapered, made from dark or ebonised wood, and fitted with brass castors.

Reupholstering the frame in a modern neutral linen or vibrant plain velvet creates a contemporary focal point while retaining historic lines. Positioning the sofa alongside minimal modern lighting and clean-lined tables balances the ornate silhouette.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment to prevent dust accumulation. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight to avoid fading, and consult a professional textile conservator for spot cleaning or full upholstery restoration.
