An authentic Song dynasty Longquan celadon bowl, 12th–13th century, with classic carved fluting and olive-green crackle glaze. The bowl is well-thrown with typical reddish foot rim and thick, slightly irregular walls. Good condition for its age, minor rim frits, no cracks or repairs. English private collection provenance. Comparable to pieces in the British Museum.

Longquan celadon refers to green-glazed stoneware produced in the Longquan region of Zhejiang province, China, recognized during the Song Dynasty for its soft glaze texture and distinctive pale green to olive tones.

These bowls were wheel-thrown from iron-bearing stoneware clay and coated in a lime-alkali glaze, then fired in dragon kilns under a reducing atmosphere to yield a jade-like translucency.

Period pieces feature thick glazes with soft opacity, unglazed foot rims showing orange-red iron oxidation from firing, and delicate carved or moulded fluting such as lotus petals on the exterior.
