Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Strawberry Hill Gothic originated in the mid-18th century as an architectural and decorative style inspired by Horace Walpoles villa at Strawberry Hill. It incorporates playful, romanticised medieval elements such as pointed arches, tracery panels, heraldic shields, and intricate wood carving into Georgian and Victorian cabinet making.

Gothic Revival cabinetry primarily utilized native hard woods, most notably solid dark oak, mahogany, and walnut. Construction featured traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved relief panels, and wrought iron or dark brass metal hardware.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display natural wood shrinkage, oxidation in drawer linings, and uneven hand-carved details. Examining secondary timbers, hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron hinges, and genuine surface patina helps verify age.

Position the piece as a focal point against neutral or dark moody wall tones in a dining room, hallway, or study. Balance the heavy dark timber with simple modern ceramics, glass stemware, or minimal lighting fixtures to create architectural contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft lint-free cloth along the grain and into carved crevices. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement.
