Strawberry Hill Gothic Oak Cabinet on Stand. c1860.

A petite 'Strawberry Hill' gothic oak Cabinet of dimunitive proportions. The property of a Scholar, and used as a writing desk. The front panels of this wonderful Pre-Raphaelite/Arts and Crafts cabinet comprise of mid Victorian First Edition medieval inspired Paper Mache book bindings – The Record of the Black Prince and The Good Shunamite. Unique, curious, magical and not a little enchanting inspiration for creativity and literature. Subtle eclesiasticall features to base and top sections. Superb.

Condition: Excellent and beautifully aged oak patina, with some minor losses to shelf edges.

It incorporates playful, romanticised medieval elements such as pointed arches, tracery panels, heraldic shields, and intricate wood carving into Georgian and Victorian cabinet making.
