Pencil with Watercolour Portrait

Description

This early 19th century portrait shows a lady named Mrs Webb with fashionably cropped curls wearing a high-waisted dress with a frilled collar and mancherons on the sleeves. Her style of dress dates the portrait to around 1805-1810.

Pencil heightened with watercolour features drawn on watermarked paper. Light dust-soiling with a couple of brown spots in the undrawn area. The portrait is set in a period giltwood frame with a decorative leaf border. The sitter's name is inscribed on the backing board and on an old envelope attached reverse.
