Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fireplace fender is a low metallic rail or barrier placed around the hearth to contain stray embers, ash, and coal. During the 19th century, decorative brass fenders also served as a central visual element in Victorian and Regency hearth design.

Fenders from this era were typically constructed from sheet brass featuring pierced fretwork, cast brass feet, and rolled top rails. Internal iron plates or weighted bases were frequently added to provide structural stability and heat resistance.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut or cast fretwork, heavy cast claw or bracket feet, and visible hand-riveted or threaded iron structural elements on the reverse side. Natural oxidisation and subtle surface irregularities also indicate historical manufacture.

An antique brass fender can be placed around a working or decorative hearth to define the fireplace area and introduce warm metallic tones. In non-functional fireplaces, it can enclose displays of dried botanical arrangements, logs, or pillar candles.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry cloth. To preserve the original patina and prevent finish degradation, avoid harsh chemical cleansers and apply a light coating of microcrystalline wax occasionally.
